Stonewood

Stonewood EMS,

Part of the Stonewood Group, is a Contract Electronic Manufacturing and Design Company based in Dorset in the UK.

Stonewood electronics was established in 1995 as a contract electronics manufacturer.  In 2001 the owner expanded the business to design and develop the 'Flagstone data encryption products'.

In May 2007 Stonewood Electronics changed ownership.  The company has been re-branded as The Stonewood Group and has been directed into 3 segregated but complimentary areas;
Stonewood Group comprises of three business streams:

•    Data encryption hard drives
•    Stonewood Electronics Manufacturing Services
•    Professional Services

Stonewood EMS has taken a further step in improving the level of services on offer. During 2007 Stonewood invested over £350k in Electronics manufacturing equipment and were ranked as the 9th fastest growing company within the UK’s Electronic Manufacturing Industry in 2007 by Plimsoll, (reported February 2008).

In January 2007 Stonewood took delivery of the Europlacer Vitesse II SMT Placement machine .

Vitesse

The Vitesse II is the ultimate SMT placement
solution - high throughput combined with the
flexibility of a mid-range fine pitch placer. Unlike
conventional chip shooters, the Vitesse II is able
to place a wide range of devices. Such flexibility
is achieved through Europlacer's intelligent feeder
and vision technologies. Equipped with 'smart'
nozzles and 'on the fly' vision, the Vitesse II fulfils
all possible placement needs in one compact
system.

Another investment in June 2008 was made via the distribution division of Blakell Europlacer in the form of the SAKI Automated Optical Inspection machine.

Saki

This particular model was chosen because of its ability to dealwith solder joint quality on components as small as 0201. This investment further stresses the intentions of Stonewood EMS which is to compete within the mid to high complexity, low to medium volume market within the UK and Europe. Automated Optical Inspection is the ideal tool for an Electronic Manufacturing Services provider whereby the high cost of investment involved in In-Circuit Test can be bypassed during qualification of the supplier and product.

Stonewood Electronics has also recently been awarded the design, development and manufacturing of the secure storage elements of a major Tactical Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (TUAV) programme by a leading aerospace company. This multi-million pound contract will enable Stonewood to leverage the recent investment in technology and staff to further develop their capability of EMS service. Stonewood are required to deliver fixed and portable secure storage solutions, utilising the secure encryption and authentication provided by our internationally approved, pioneering FlagStone product range. The programme will utilise the full range of Stonewood EMS’s capability, from layout and design of PCBs through to manufacture and rigorous environmental testing.
