The main issue in prototype production is dealing with short tapes.
Almost all feeders require a leader tape, to handle short tapes one solution is to use peeler blade but you will still loose few components when removing the half empty reel from the feeder as they are no longer secured by the cover film. You must also select the appropriate peeler blade for the use tape material, which adds to the inventory.
A possible solution for small runs could be, that the short tapes are treated like a matrix tray. You stick the tapes onto a plate, a peeler removes the cover tape and the components are picked one by one.
The new Europlacer short tape element can be fitted onto a standard tape trolley and can handle paper and/or plastic tapes, and all sizes of component. There is no need for a special element for 0402 and yet another one for 1206. This saves operator time, makes set-up more efficient and minimises inventory.
Short tape elements are available for 8,12,16 and 24mm tapes.
Another strong argument for this element, if the tape is removed from the element before being emptied, no component are lost, as all of them are still covered by the cover film.
